Happy Independence Day

Let's Pause for a Moment...

Depending on when you get around to reading this, you may have already celebrated the long weekend and the gift of freedom here in the United States. It's a beautiful, hard-won privilege to be able to pursue happiness and success at various levels.

The price for our independence must be paid continuously, which is why I'd like to recognize the ongoing sacrifice of our service men and women. Be sure to thank the veteran, local leader, or politician in your family. Our freedom is a privilege and rests on the shoulders of those who fight for it, both on the ground and in the polls.

While nearly everyone can recall that our independence was won in 1776, very few have heard the secrets we are about to divulge. Here are three fun trivia facts!

1 | The first Independence Day party menu included turtle soup, salmon, potatoes, and Indian pudding--not entirely what you'll be serving at your July 4th barbecue.

2 | The tune of our national anthem comes from an old English drinking song that touted the praises of wine.

3 | The turkey nearly became our national bird. (We think the bald eagle was a wise choice.)

My all-time easiest summertime recipe:
  • Sliced tomatoes

  • Fresh mozzarella

  • Olive Oil

  • Basil Leaves

  • Italian Seasoning

  • Salt & Pepper

DESIGN TREND-The 5th wall

This is one design trend that is more of a revived classic. Molding, exposed beams, and tin are creative ways to express your design style on the "5th wall" of your space i.e., your ceiling.

DESIGN TIP-Masculine decor

Popular and attractive decor can still be masculine--think brass, leather, and earth tones. Use a variety of materials and textures to add depth to the space through area rugs and window treatments. Your other half just might appreciate a few of these touches.

What if your entire home could be redesigned, restyled, and revamped? (That happens to be my specialty.)
